The Spring Pops concert was another hit this year, and not just because of the outstanding performance. Within the medley of songs, the MICDS Chamber Choir performed”Africa,” by Toto, to bring attention to the water crisis in Africa and partnered with ShoeCrew Water Projects to provide funding for water points in developing countries.
In addition to collecting financial donations at each concert, the choirs brought in gently used shoes to donate to ShoeCrew. ShoeCrew works with exporters who purchase the shoes in bulk, thus creating the funds to support water projects. They are also able to gather about 25 tons of shoes out of our local landfills, protecting our own water sources. ShoeCrew also distributes shoes back into our local community through partnerships with other non-profits.
