Curriculum Work in Costa Rica

Last summer, Rene Ashman, Upper School Spanish Teacher, attended classes and met with administrators at the Monteverde Institute in Monteverde, Costa Rica. She is working with Paul Zahller, Upper School Science Teacher, to develop a course-experience for Upper School students titled “Interconnectivity: Community and Ecology in the Bellbird Biological Corridor of Costa Rica.”

Participants of the course will learn from local experts about a number of related topics including community, forestry ecology, carbon neutrality, and water quality. Experiences would include lectures by local experts, naturalist-led hikes in the cloud and rain forest, hands-on work in the field, introductory or intermediate thematic Spanish and culture studies and interactions with local youth and families.
